LYRICS

15. "The American Dream"
swollen eyes
broken hearts
fallin' skies
slide remarks
beggers pride
loser weep
preachers preach
while children sleep
soldiers die
mothers cry
religious wars at your feet
tv screens paper reads
"33 dead at the scene"
children die
mothers cry
oh, how great The American Dream.
people fight
stores close
winners pride
anger flows
innocence died
money swears
killer's pride
are you scared?
empty thoughts
empty beds
wife's alone
husband's dead.
guns shoot
bombs drop
people sleep
sides swap
presidents lie
parents believe
preachers preach while listeners sleep
anger grows through the years
as we all live The American Dream.

16. "Sold"
America,
where did you go? I am lost without your soul.
You were young, now you're old.
You're good as, you're good as Sold.
America,
learn what's right. Learn how to die, learn how to fight.
Learn how to sing and write a song.
Then maybe I'll play along.
Cause you are gone. And you are dead.
With a knife in your back and a bullet in your head.
But I still hope and pray for peace. And that you shall be released.

17. "Let Me Be Free"
well i sailed across the ocean.
i went to foreign land.
And the only thing i ever recognized
was the hatred in the hearts of young men.
I saw two men fightin' over the heart of a girl neither knew.
and when that wind started blowin' over that northern sky... man, I knew we were doomed.
well i didn't have much to say
and what i said was usually wrong.
Cause when you're chained up and held down with a knife to your throat you realize you're better off alone.
well you ain't my brother
and i'll never be your friend.
People who like you who lie and say that they're free only capture themselves in the end.
i wrote this song for no one
yet i sing it just for you.
you can tell by the way a man says his words whether or now he tells the truth.
i know who I am and I know what i'm not.
Don't give me what I don't really need cause you don't need what you ain't got.

18. "Burn"
i'd like to watch this place burn.
i'd like to see it fall down.
cause no one here really knows me and no one here really cares
can you see me? now that i'm really gone.
can you hear me? now that i'm really gone.
yeah, i'm really gone. now that i'm really gone.
i ain't afraid of dyin'.
cause this world is already dead.
what once was is now empty.
just take the easy way out.

19. "Country Soul"
wake up. cause you're almost dead.
or maybe just tired of trying.
brick walls can't hold you in tonight.
if you wanna go, then go.
And I'd leave this town if it wasn't for you.
yeah I'd leave this town if it wasn't for you...
and I'll wait to leave this town cause livin' free has got its ups and downs.

20. "Modern Girls Approximately"
as the night's fallin' down like a queen without a crown
she falls fast she falls deep she counts her lies and her sheep
it's gonna be alright
she's gonna make it out somehow
modern girls at their best hide their love in a chest
buried far beneath the sea there ain't a reason without a key
you chase 'em far you chase 'em wide then they run and they hide
like a mother to a child you hold them down, they grow wild
it's gonna be alright
she's gonna make it out somehow
they try you on like a shoe never used only new
paintin' clouds in the sky modern girls and their lies.

21. "Hound Dog"
let your hair flow long in the summer breeze. come on pretty momma won't you dance with me?
i'll sing you a song and write you a tune. it might now rhyme but it'll be for you.
we'll have a ball and drink some wine. don't matter when you come just come on time.

my hound dog's howlin' in the middle of the night
when you're gone and you don't come by/stop by
he cries all night at the foot of my bed
"I"m sorry pretty lady for all i said"
he misses your love/lovin' and misses your touch
i'd give him a bone but it wouldn't mean much.

please come on back and lay me down
if you're lonely and lost and wanna be found
kitchens been empty without you here
it's ain't seen no cookin' in half a year
come bake me a pie in turtle neck grease
then i'll draw you a bath and rub your feet

CHORUS

come on pretty momma i'll tell no lies
let your hair flow long in the summer night
let it cover your face and cover your neck
then we'll go to church in our Sunday best
i'll praise the Lord for bringin' you home
you're the best damn seed i ever sown

CHORUS

the world is a mess and i don't know why
just come on over and we'll get high
i know a man whose got the goods
he lives in a cabin out in the woods
i don't care if it's sunny or if it rains
cause when you're gone it's all the same

22. "One More Day"
look at me so full of sh*t
i don't know just like you
so i'll stay and sing a song one more day
hold... hold me closer
hold my hand
walk me in again
i won't go this time flowers grow
rain drowing my soul
help me free my mind
sunny days
broken light of mine
lead me home this time
watch me stand
the sun burns away
i ain't gone
burnin' one more year
it's all the same
it is all one more day

23. "Leavin' Home"
Sunday mornin' comin' down like the rain burying my home town
hey hey hey hey ladida ladidadada
packed my bags i'm headed out on a train i'm leavin' this town behind
the reason why is on a note that i left some place you would find
i'm leavin' home for now and i ain't gonna wast another year
i'm gonna make it and i'll see you when i get there
when i left i heard you say it won't cost if you never never pay
hey hey hey hey ladida ladidada
and in the mornin' i woke up i felt the pain as it started to flow
the cars speed by me like the girls that i loved but only let me go
i'm leavin' home for now and i ain't gonna wast another year
i'm gonna make it and i'll see you when i get there

24. "New York"
And I don't know don't know anymore
feel i was sold in a country store
as my memories tear me apart
like the girl i loved then broke my heart
and if you see me walkin' around you can tell her where i might be found
up in New York away from here you can tell her but she won't care
and my hound dog he's doin' just fine bought 'em a chew toy with my last dime
and those fancy wines they ain't my style but up in New York think I'll stay for awhile
i keep on fightin' off all my fears
as my memories turn into tears
it's just like the movies when the boy meets the girl
til' all of a sudden he's in his own world
and if you see me walkin' around you can tell her where i might be found
up in New York away from here you can tell her but she won't care
and my old hound dog he's doin' alright he quit cryin' just the other night
and these city girls they ain't my style but up in New York think i'll be here awhile.
